Abitare: One New Website

We passed this shop on the way to the subway the other day and—true love! So much less complicated when it happens between a person and a store. Of course we wish they had more of their stock online, but until we get to Brooklyn Heights again, online will have to do.

We don't really use coasters, since all of our drinks come in plastic cups, but if we did, we would be so pleased to use this one. Set of four rubber coasters, $24

We feel like there might be a bit more order in our life if we had these nice hooks, from which to suspend things. Flower hooks, $65 for 3

Savon de Marseille is an all-time Bunnyshop fave. We tried to get this in Marseille, but they were too heavy to bring back. Now, of course, we won't buy them because we could have gotten them cheaper in France. We recommend these for anyone not as beset by psychological torment about this as we are. SdM liquid soap, $20

One New Website: Matter

Of course we love this more than basically anything in the entire world. Except The Wire. And waffles. Je T'Aime Brooklyn tote, $12

One New Website: The SFMOMA Store

sukie laptop sleeve

This used to be our neighborhood store, when we lived in the Crackland section of San Francisco. Oh, Second and Bryant! How we miss you, and the drug deals on the corner.

This is our new answer for: What can I put my laptop in that's not totally ugly? Except, in our dreams, it's
asked in a grammatically correct fashion. Sukie laptop sleeve,

One New Website: Beauty Habit

Savon de Marseille Nostalgie soap

Because we always shop at the same three places. We are totally loving this site, not least because it has loads of brands (some below) that we're unfamiliar with—and there are few things we love more than discovering new brands. (Especially those with adorable packaging.) What we are really enjoying most about Beauty Habit is all the things from so far away.

Like the south of France! That has got to be some of the cutest soap packaging we've ever seen, ever. Savon de Marseille Nostalgie soap, was $9.50, now $7.13

turkish soap

We are totally into this cute packaging, too. Adatepe Turkish Soaps, $9

swedish soap

Okay, so this is maybe actually our favorite soap packaging. The Swedish Summer Soap, $3 Liebling deodorant

We're beginning to get a bit freaked out about aluminum in deodorant. At some point, this fear will overwhelm our fear of not having any money, and then we will certainly buy this: "Liebling does not contain alcohol, synthetic perfumes, colorings or preservatives and contains no aluminum." Liebling deodorant, $55

Alaska glacial mud glacial facial

From the product description: This glacial facial purifying mineral mud masque contains the most mineral-rich and pure glacial clay in the world, sustainably harvested from the remote waters of the Copper River Delta in Alaska." Oh! We totally want to go to Alaska. Preferably with very purified-looking skin. Alaska Glacial Mud Company's Glacial Facial Masque, $34

Our New Favorite Website

So there are some occasions when a fruit basket will not do. We have standard gifts for some people in our lives; our former boss gets art books, our sister gets whatever she likes, our loved one usually gets some kind of bicycle parts, our mom gets a sweater, our dad a Philadelphia Eagles book. But what do you do for the other people you're close to?

Well, we like to create. When we left our last job, we made a retirement themed mix CD (including "Career Opportunities" by The Clash, and "Gimme the Loot" by Notorious BIG), hand created, assembled, decorated and written thank you notes, and cookies. We will ignore that we lifted the paper from our then-boss (she got a long, long thank you on said paper - it wasn't really a secret). We have a very important friend's birthday coming up, and we were totally set to make him a small collection of our photography work - as he seems to like it.

Sadly, we had a large amount of darkroom difficulty and time constraints, we didn't know what to do. He claimed to not want anything photographic/equipment, and his girlfriend- who already seems to dislike us - would probably not be too happy if we gave him a really nice cashmere sweater.

What to do? A mix CD would not be enough. Cookies - pshaw. Thankfully, by way of flickr, we found a site called blurb.

Three (or four) hours later, including two stiff knees, one glob of dog slobber, and two heart stopping minute when the program crashed, we have a completely awesome, 24 page hardbound photo book. We combined photos from our flickr account and his, and we're so, so stoked to order this book. We think it may be the coolest gift we've ever given!

We were going to make a joke about how now we've published a book too, but it's a LOT less cool when you do it yourself with templates on a website. But either way, we're excited. And hey- we forgot to mention, it's not that expensive. Our 24 page, hardbound book comes to around $25. If we like it when we get it, we'll let everyone know - if anyone is interested, we can try to work out a discount with them.

One New Website: Kala Style

International soaps! One of our favorite things in the world. Particularly from Sweden. Above: "Good Morning Fairy Soap", $4. Honestly. This makes us want to move to Sweden. We would like to live in a country where fairies are said hello to, in soap form.

Honestly. Could we not just be Swedish. Arhg. Look at that packaging! Swedish Christmas soap, $12

We just absolutely Kala Style and their international soap collection. Our only regret is that we have so few bathrooms. Luxo Banho sandalwood soap, $6

And from Australia. We are totally making some artisanal soap. Australian vanilla latte soap from Milk Bar, $17

One New Website: Church Street Apothecary

As we love Doe, we love its sister store, the Church Street Apothecary. Oh, we wish we lived in a world that was all apothecaries and boulangeries and flower shops, instead of Walgreen's and Payless. Sigh.

Here is the product description: "Eau de toilette is a combination of bergamont, plum, rum, leather, dry down of amber, patchouli and milk ... Combine it with Malin+Goetz Lime Tonic for a fresh and warm Mojito like scent." All we are going to say is that if we are going to smell like any alcoholic beverage, it might as well be the mojito, the king of all rum-based drinks, and a personal favorite. Malin+Goetz rum tonic, $45

Anyway: We are always convinced we can make salt scrubs better and more cheaply at home, and inevitably we discover that all we have done is destroyed our kitchen and used up all our salt. Anthony Sea Salt Body Scrub, $25

We will add here that we just ran out of our Korres shower gel and were extremely annoyed about it. We will add as well that we often find Korres half-off at our local Marshall's, which is always nicer than paying full price. Korres Coriander shower gel, $12

Is it clear we are buying all of this for the packaging, and then, if we got it home, would be like, 'We can never use it, it's too nice'? That is the problem with buying quality packaging. La Compagnie de Provence cherry bar soap, $10

One New Website: French Touche

So the "English" version is still mstly in French, but we do not care, because we love, we just love, French Touche. And it is really not so incredibly expensive! There are loads of things for under $10. Though of course they need to be shipped from France. So it is a little bit of a catch-22. To bottom line it: Buy it now for $10 or wait another few months until Anthropologie discovers it, remakes it, and triples the price.

Above: "Deco Oiseaux," about $8
