Today's Awesome Fred Flare Discount: The Forget Me Knot Ring

We're just recently been converted to the idea of rings lately. Like cabs. Last night we took a cab home from Pen Station—this is after we were so jet-lagged we actually imagined we saw a 2 train coming, at which point we decided hallucinating was our official get-a-cab cut-off—anyway, touch screens! Extremely fabulous! We had no idea it was like 2078 in the back of cabs these days.

Anyway: equally fabulous, this ring. We love it. Girly rings, eh. Clever rings, yes. We believe this is the latter. Forget Me Knot ring, $50—minus 25% with discount code BUNNYSHOP.08, so $37.50!

The Emergency Ring: Reader Mail

In today's reader mail:

Hey there Bunny,

So this question is about personal adornment. See, I am newly single and so have cast off the wedding and engagement rings that I have worn for the last few years. But, of course, now my fingers feel naked and I don’t feel very pretty overall, so I’m looking for a little present to myself. And yet, I don’t want to fall into that sad clichéd trap of either a) the “right-hand ring” forced down our throats by the DeBeers company or b) jewelry with messages about “the journey” or “strength” etched into it.

Do you have any suggestions for a beautiful ring that is worth a not-too-big investment, makes me appear like a stylish, confident girl and will also fit my freakishly small hands (the biggest ring size I can wear is a 5)?

E.

Oh dear! This sounds like a very stressful episode!

First, we will say: The best medicine we have ever provided to ourselves or anyone is travel. It is our favorite cliche, that travel is transformative, and in our opinion, one of the most accurate. It heals all wounds, if you will indulge us in another one.

That said: We also despise the marketing campaign known as the right-hand ring, and believe in a world without power-messages inscribed upon our jewelry. We are hoping that LB will chime in here (as well as anyone else with a suggestion, of course) but we love Melissa Joy Manning's rings. We're not sure if this qualifies as "not-too-big," but this ring definitely does come in a size 5 (or 4, or 4.5) and we just love it—the entire collection, but this one in particular. It completely sidesteps that ridiculous right-hand-ring stuff—it's not a pathetic replacement for anything. It's just gorgeous. Melissa Joy Manning druzy agate ring, $485

We also really like this one: You're a star! It's a better statement, in our opinion, than a whole shitload of other rings. We're pretty sure it's harder to be a star than it is to get some guy to hand over a ring. Adina Reyter star ring, $238

LB Loves: Ema Takahashi

So, while your regularly scheduled writer toils away over a redesign, we're going to bring you things we love. It's Friday, it's spring (which we noticed when we woke up one day and suddenly could not breathe out of our nose), and we are on some serious allergy medicines (because of aforementioned stupid season). If we blather a little, you'll have to forgive us.

We came across Ema Takahashi and we are a little like whoa with her intricate designs. We have never been good at 3D art (our last attempt was a 5' cardboard/paper Zippo lighter. Yes, we went to art school, and yes, it was as awful as it sounds), so when someone takes a simple material and turns it into the incredible, we're always impressed.

These necklaces are no exception. We love words and we so so so love abstracting words ever so slightly so the letters look more like shapes than a word. It takes the context away and makes you concentrate on the movement - maybe it's the ex-art student in us that thinks that way. We also love the kind of secret aspect of it - like you have to get close, or at least pause for a moment, to figure it out. Or maybe that's just us. Either way.

I Love NY necklace, $170

Ok, ok. So 'yes we can' has a really strong political connotation these days. But we've always been incredibly positive minded, we annoyingly always find the silver lining in the dark cloud, etc. Aside from looking awesome, this necklace is just a really nice way to encourage yourself/others/political candidates/etc.

Yes We Can necklace, $285

Clearly, this isn't a word. Rather, it's a peony based off Chinese drawings. We would very much like this necklace for a birthday present from someone we know. We would totally wear this with anything, all the time.

Peony necklace, $155

Picture_3We're just about wrapping up HayLuv discount week—20% off these lovely chunky necklaces.

The Raffia Necklace

So we're in France at the moment, which is cold as fuck in a way that's really interfering with our springtime buzz. Anyway, we've noticed too things here: April snow is an abomination. And we have seen like three million store windows with raffia on the mannequins. This is, below and to our surprise, one of the few raffia
necklaces we were able to find.

This isn't exacccccctly what we were looking for, but it's as close as we're getting. Wood, Lucite, and raffia-wrapped bead necklace, $63.50

Spectacularish Discounts at HayLuv

Picture_2HayLuv discount week continues! We just love big, chunky jewelry like this. One piece is all you need, and especially something like pretty much instantly dresses up an otherwise boring black dress. Which is apparently the only sort we have.

HayLuv Love Hug, was $265, with discount code "bunnyshop", $212

This Week's Discount: HayLuv

Picture_7Our discount week with HayLuv was regrettably interrupted last week, after we destroyed our site. (We think it's all fixed now, but let us know if you're having any trouble.) Moving on with our discount!

We totally want that dress. And this is our favorite of all the fabulous necklaces (all of which are 20% of with our special discount code). It's the Love Angel Fierce, regularly $260, with discount code "bunnyshop", $208

April 02, 2008

HayLuv: This Week's Discount!

Picture_3It's another discount week here at Bunnyshop! Now that we've gotten rid of half of our malfunctioning site, everything seems to be swimming along, nowhere more so than right here and now, as we discuss this week's discount with HayLuv: discount code "bunnyshop", 20% off. Easy as pie, we're thinking, and we do love pie.

Our pick today is this star necklace. We're so in need of a star necklace, it's officially ridiculous. Baby charmed star, was $48, with discount, $38.40

Moss Mills: This Week's Discount, Day 5

Picture_6The final day of the Moss Mills discount hoopla! 25% off a single-item purchase. Not much more to elaborate on here.

We close with this necklace because it reminds us so much of the ending of Summer Rental, and there is nothing we love more than summer.

Moss Mills Chip & Jack necklace in gold, $142, with discount code "bunnyshop", $106.50

March 27, 2008

Moss Mills: This Week's Discount, Day 4

Picture_4Day 4 of the Moss Mills discount week! Man, we can hardly believe it's almost April. Honestly. That just completely freaks us out.

If we were up for trying hard we'd make some comparison between this, like, budding tree and the natural state of affairs at the moment, but really, that's asking more of the season than we need to.

Moss Mills Avery necklace in gold, was $136, with discount code "bunnyshop", $102

Sale Item of the Day

Picture_5We have totally wanted one of these since we saw them in Opening Ceremony a couple weeks ago. And now: 70% off! (If we're doing our math right.) Which makes up for the fact of how dirty we're going to get it in about a day and a half.

Yarborough cashmere bracelet, was $62, now $18.60

March 26, 2008

Moss Mills: This Week's Discount, Day 3

Picture_3It's Day 3 of the Moss Mills 25% Off Discount Code. (Hurray! As before.) Anything at the store! As long as it is a single-item purchase.

Moss Mills: This Week's Discount, Day 2

Picture_1_2Day 2 of the Moss Mills discount week! Above: We are basically contractually obligated to gravitate to the bunny paraphernalia. This is an adorable ring nonetheless. We remind that with our discount code "bunnyshop", everything at the store is 25% a single-item purchase.

Moss Mills bunny ring, was $96, with discount code "bunnyshop", $72

Moss Mills: This Week's Discount

Picture_1Yay! It's another discount week—this time, with one of our very favorite jewelry designers, Moss Mills. Above, that's one of our very favorite of their pieces, the Audrey necklace. And this week only, 25% off any single-item purchase with discount code "bunnyshop". Double yay!

Anyhoo: the Audrey necklace in gold, was $238, with discount code "bunnyshop", $178.50

Subversive and Botkier for Target

Honestly our hopes weren't super high for Subversive for Target, just because we love the original line and we weren't sure if it's translate to the cheaper version. Subversive for Target pendant necklace, $39.99

All we know is we really, really, really want this: Subversive (the original) vintage coin necklace, $600

Hopefully Botkier for Target—just announced! or rumored to be announced—will turn out better than all the other Target collaborations—at least for us, since we have enough clothing \ accessories we don't wear to stuff into hidden parts of our closet and eventually use, in a panic, to sop up the Diet Coke we just spilled on our laptop.

Er, anyway: above, an actual Botkier bag, probably just a bit more expensive than the Target version will be: the Botkier Isis hobo, $625

Subversive Jewelry: Independent Jewelry Designer of the Day

We can't afford it, but we are so loving it. We completely forgot we covered Subversive for Nylon. Double strand pearl necklace, $560

How pretty is this? Ooh, we just wish we had $700 to spend on a necklace. Tss! Cha-ching necklace, $700

February 27, 2008

Melissa Joy Manning: BS Hearts

Melissa Joy Manning is totally our new favorite jewelry designer. Above: sterling silver chain, $190

And we're not a ring person but this is the coolest one ever:

gold ring

22k gold coated druzy ring, $485

By the way we totally had to look that up and "druzy" means "a fine layer of miniature crystals filling a cavity or coating a matrix." Fair enough.

Another Valentine's Day Suggestion

Picture_1
Every year we have a new favorite thing at Bing Bang. This is it for 2008: it's so not jewelry-y, and takes care, all in one, of the whole layered-necklace thing. Easy peasy, that.

Figaro mixed chain, $285

Every Day This Week, A V-Day Suggestion

We've already ranted and raved about Valentine's Day. Marketing, marketing, marketing, chocolate sales.

But also an opportunity for buying awesome pieces of jewelry. Sigh.

Here is another picture:

Horseshoe necklace (handmade in Kansas!), $60

Our Favorite Thing We Saw Today for Less Than $10

On52299500vliv01Two notes:

1: Our best friend was wearing something very similar to this over a black top on Saturday night, and it was so pretty, and this is so conveniently on sale—in fact, it may have been this one. And we wanted to show something very cheap after this morning's $600 dresses.

2: What is wrong with people making websites these days? Honestly: go to oldnavy.com. How fucking annoying is that audio commercial? Argh! What the fuck! We are newly sympathetic to this whole idea of safe-for-work, and what if you're just undercover surfing Old Navy (we're sure it's happened) and you forget to turn off the sound—because why would you need to?—and it starts doing that? Argh. Makes. No. Sense.

Anyway: ON clear-bead multi-strand necklace, was $12.50, now $8.99

January 28, 2008

Say It In Silver (Bracelets)

What a clever idea! Especially if you are buying someone, someone you are dating or not dating, a lovely present in a few weeks. Like, "Our Favorite Postman" or "Best Dentist Ever." Etc. Custom silver bracelets,
$60

January 25, 2008

Site of the Day: Calypso

Okay, so we're moderately excited about this dress. Really we are mostly highlighting Calypso to highlight, in turn, their ongoing warehouse sale in SoHo:

Open Fri -Sun
Until March 2nd
426 Broome Street, between Crosby & Lafayette

This dress, in our selection-defense, is "as seen in Oprah." Julia silk dress, was $195, now $95

We are, however, incredibly enthusiastic about these bangles. Atomic bangles, $175

We also like this. We are pretty sure the best Valentine's Day presents are the ones you give yourself. Double circle necklace, $205

BS Hearts: A Variety of Things From a Trusted Source

Pc_ring265mWe are delighted to present a BS Hearts from this member of our community, who also happened to be the most fashionably dressed attendee of any of our readings, anywhere. (Though she may have been tied by our friend T., who we once spent four days following around a Mexican hotel, hoping to get a glance of her Marc Jacobs bag.)

Anyway: the recommendations we are happy to share from someone whose taste we surely trust:

Phillip Crangi's gold-and-steel stackable rings ($265)

Boots Botanics lip gloss
($7.99) [BS note: Target's not really showing pictures, but the shade looks delightfully Benetint-y.)

We love when people tell us what they love. Send us yours here.

The Sales Continue: Sway and Cake

Sales! Sales sales sales! Honestly, we don't know why we aren't at the mall right this minute, scooping up handfuls of budget clothing. Today: Sway & Cake. We don't know how they got the name, but we like it.

Above: We are thinking that this shirt could transcend this photo of it. Chrissa Collection top, was $168, now $84

12th st by cynthia vincent trousers

We're not entirely sure about those sandals, but black trousers are useful. Especially ones that are not in denim, which, tragically, represents the whole of our collection. 12th St by Cynthia Vincent trousers, were $234, now $105

teika jewelry

An earlier version of these earrings were like the first thing we ever posted on Bunnyshop. We like them just as much now, even if they are not so cheap. They're handmade in Morocco, if that excuses the cost. Teika earrings, were $169, now $118

And: hot pants! Our preferred item of under-clothings. Cosabella hot pants, were $24, now $10

Bunnyshop Hearts: Helen Ficalora

We love it when people send us what they, in turn, love because frankly, we're running out. We're about to be saluting windmills or something. Actually, we do love windmills, so whatever. In any case, if you have a suggestion for any random thing on this earth, possibly tangentially related to fashion or consumer-y things, and we would be delighted to share it with everyone else. Especially, we're thinking, jewelry-type items.

Anyhoo:

I recently purchased a helen ficalora charm necklace! I absolutely love it and wanted to share it with other bunnyshop readers. Her charms have been featured in tons of magazine (real simple, lucky, self) and recently I saw it on Katherine Heigl in 27 dresses!

Classic but cool :)

K.

We have a few more of these adorable Madewell t-shirts: First five people to send us their favorite things gets ’em. Send them here

Above, the alphabet charms.

Reader Mail: The Resolutions (With Prizes)

5762424875005_med_2In today's Reader Mail:

Dear BS:

So I know this has nothing to do with shopping, but I really want to know what everyone's is. Will you tell? And then, hmm, do you have any fashion resolutions too?

Love,
C.

Oh, as we were saying: We freaking love the resolutions. Last year our resolution(s) was to go to Australia, Stornoway, Croatia and Zanzibar. Sadly, we did not get to any of those places. We did not even get particularly close. Ooh, can't be too sad about that, we guess. Anyway, our resolutions include, and we say "include" because we have about 500, to go to those places, and to buy a piece of furniture that would allow us to be in our apartment and also sit somewhere that is not (a) the floor, (b) an egg crate, or (c) our bed. We also want to do a lot of yoga, and learn to cook something that is not a member of the pasta family.

Fashion-wise, we need to supplement our wardrobe with items of clothing made of fabric other than denim. We need to accessorize more. We were so annoyed that this necklace above cost $32, but we are realizing now that it makes $5 t-shirts look reasonably nice. And we need to stop buying broken clothing. We will admit here, this once, that this one dress we bought, under extreme duress—we actually bought it thinking it went one way, and realized, as we were going out the door, that we had been wearing it backwards. And that we hated wearing it the right way. And that a button was missing. Broken clothing. Aggravating. 2008. We hope for better!

Above: hammered necklace, now $16

Because we still have a few more of our lovely Madewell t-shirts here, we will give away two more, at random, from the commentators below, if you'll be so nice as to share your resolutions—whether fashion oriented or otherwise.

This is an adorable Madewell scarf. Now: the resolutions! Winners announced promptly. (For a change.)

Today! Katchenkoo's Big Sale in NYC

So sometimes you need to buy a present, and it actually has to be special, as in not an iTunes gift certificate. (And we have given plenty of those in our day.)

Anyway: if that person happens to be a young, female relative or similar, we heartily suggest something from Katchenkoo, verifiable FOBs, and particularly if you're in New York, as you could stop by their big 25% off sale today. We are going to try to be there, as well. Details:

Saturday, December 15, 12pm - 5pm
4 W. 22nd Street, 11th Floor
(between 5th and 6th Avenue)

Above: Sweetheart necklace, $590

December 13, 2007

What To Buy For: Your Best Friend

This year has been quite a Christmas conundrum, as we have vowed to hand-make or otherwise free-source as many presents as possible. (Santa: We would like cash, please. Er, and clothes! And a new microphone for our video camera. Anyway.) What we are realizing is that while we might like to think we are being thrifty, we are being the opposite, because we're going to try to make things, but then they'll suck, and we'll have to buy presents anyway. Christmas: the holiday that keeps on giving.

So anyway: While everyone we know is different, etc., and the best present is a personal one, we also believe that there is strength in numbers, and that many people have best friends with vaguely similar tastes. Here is what we are getting ours. More or less. We would love to know what everyone else is getting theirs.

We love non-romantic jewelry for friends. Actually, we are not entirely sure we would buy this for her. The truth of the matter is that we had the best system ever with her, whereby we would go to the mall and just hand each other $20. (This was amazing.) However, if someone asked us, 'What should I get my best friend?' we would certainly suggest this necklace.

But like we said, strength in numbers. Who else has present ideas for the best friend-type?

Odette oak necklace, $132

Before we go we'll note that our BFF (we always want to end that, "our BFF Jill") would prolly be just as happy with this, and we can spend the rest on magazines. Or at least this is what we can tell ourselves ... as we spend the money on magazines. Bestie necklace, $14

December 06, 2007

What A Surprise...

That we would love the Moss Mills necklace called Lil' Bunny. We are not saying anyone who we are related to, that is perhaps a few years older, should get this for us or anything. Just that it's lovely, and an excellent way to show appreciation!

Lil' Bunny necklace, $94 and up

BS Hearts: Moss Mills

We keep confusing Moss Mills with French Frost. This may be because Moss Mills makes us think of Kate Moss and, er, maybe Heather Mills, but definitely British blonde people. Moss Mills is different, and honestly, we prefer them.

Anyway: this necklace. We have been looking—well, we were going to say "here, there, and everywhere," but that would be a lie. We have been occasionallyl glancing around for a heart necklace, and this may be our favorite of all of them.

Audrey necklace, $238 (for gold)

December 04, 2007

BS Hearts: Frozen Peas

Ahhhhhhdorable, is what we're thinking. We are definitely of the position that a clever $32 necklace is really and truly every bit as good as a $1000 not-clever necklace. We are just absolutely, positively convinced of this.

Oddball Paul the Pony necklace, $32

We have shown these before and we could hardly love them anymore than we already do.

Hugging polar bear wallet, $30

And we file this under things we absolutely do not need but for $6 really don't have to get too anxious about it.

Small wooden pin, $6

The Bunnyshop Holiday Wish List

Wherein we discuss all the things we really, really want for Christmas, without really wanting them, if you know what we mean. Like, if we lived in a TV commercial, this is what would make us jump up and down. Er. For the chief engineer behind a website devoted (er, we like to think) to intelligent consumerism, we're feeling exceptionally un-consumerish these days.

Anyway: We still like jewelry, especially excellent little things that are all clever and subtle, like this. Adina Reyter gold tiny star nnecklace, $245

More From Liza McLaughlin

We were so excited about Liza McLaughlin's maple pod necklace from yesterday that we wanted to show a few more of her pieces. We get excited pretty easily, and usually briefly, but we are totally feeling this, if you know what we mean.

We are so over the whole bird thing but this is so lovely we do not entirely mind. Wren necklace in sterling silver, $110

We don't really like rings—we swear they make our hands itch—but if we were going to, this might be the one. Sage ring in 14kt rose gold, $900. (There's also a less crazy-priced option in 14kt gold vermeil for $85.)
