    BS Hearts: Elle Deco SA

    200903121436.jpg

Now that Domino is tragically no more, we are forced to look elsewhere for our interiors information. This is why we love Elle Deco South Africa, which is, as the name suggests, the South African version of Elle Decoration. There are several reasons for this: Unlike the UK one, it's not filled with things that are impossibly expensive. Like Domino, it looks like real people live in the places shown. And they have an adorable blog that we read every day. Like Apartment Therapy, but manageable. (We have 300 AT posts to get through and that is from like Tuesday. We love it, but it's stressing us out.)

Since they just moved to a new web address, and we're casting about in the dark of the post-Domino shelter world, it seemed like a reasonable time to mention them. They're where we found out about the artist whose work is above. Apparently she makes collages from tiny, tiny pieces of colored paper from magazines, as above. We actually like them better in detail than in the macro, but so be it. For more on her and others, see Elle Deco SA. We are fans.

Since We Can't Get Orla Kiely For Target Magazine Holders....

    200902241626.jpg

These are without a doubt the most beautiful magazine holders we've ever seen—and we've been looking, since our hopes of Orla Kiely for Target ones have been so annoyingly dashed. Of course, these are Orla Kiely for Heal's, and the price situation is out of control. However: beautiful! Orla Kiely for Heal's magazine holder, about $31

Has Anyone Else Noticed That It's Been Really Hard to Find Orla Kiely at Target?

    200902170832.jpg

We swear we've been staking out the magazine holders for ages and never saw them, in store or online. This blue scribble plate is one of the few things available on the latter, in any case: four-piece blue scribble plate set, $15.99

    200902170834.jpg

This is also available online. Meh. Orla Kiely stoneware pear canister, $17.98

Amazing collection but we're totally annoyed about roll-out, especially after we showed up at Target on premiere day only to (a) see no Orla Kiely and (b) get sucked into buying a Jillian Michaels workout book.

Website of the Day: Little Paper Planes

    2524_w450.jpg

We're running a bit late today, thanks to the five inches of snow that has completely shut down the city of London. (City of London: we're not impressed!) Actually, it's awesome to see any community withstand some sort of crisis, even the impossibly minor one of five inches of snow, and be like, Our president could take care of this with a wave of his magical fingers. That is a new feeling.

So we are here to say: Little Paper Planes is our website of the day, and: Lisa Congdon! Permanently adorable. Lisa Congdon letterpress print, $35

One Week Countdown to Orla Kiely at Target!

    200901260149.jpg200901260148.jpg

February 1: It's even better than the Super Bowl, unless you are from Pittsburgh, which we are not. When we say we are going to be there when the store opens, we mean it, because we have been looking for magazine holders, and these could not be more perfect! We were definitely hoping for cheaper than $9.99, but we've seen many less-cute ones for more.

    200901260156.jpg 200901260156.jpg

The plates are priced more to our liking at $3.99 each.

And: cork placemat, $4.99. Not a single thing—on this page, anyway—more than $10. Hurrah!

Store of the Week: Rare Device \ Alyssa Ettinger

Il_430xn41457889 So we are back in San Francisco, however briefly, and actually quite happy to be here, despite the fact that our yoga teacher this evening made us all say hello to our neighbor, which we successfully managed to avoid by staring at the ceiling. We are all for niceness but seriously! If we wanted to make friends, we would have gone to friend class! Instead of yoga class, where we believed we would be able to remain quietly curmudgeonly, as we had planned! Argh.

Anyhoo: On the much more pleasing side: We discovered Rare Device, which is an ex-Park Slope store (oh, they should have stayed) and currently on Market Street here. It is quite possibly our favorite store in the whole, wide world now, and they had like three million things from independent designers we would have been quite happy to buy—including these "knitwear" bowls from Alyssa Ettinger. Unfortunately, they're out of stock at the Rare Device web store, so we go to Alyssa's Etsy store. We will probably be back with something from Rare Device soon, but in the meantime: Alyssa Ettinger! Lovely bowls! Lovely presents as well, we're thinking, in this interminably gift-giving season.

Grinch! That is our name. Knitwear vase, $150. (NB: There are some cheaper, more recession-proof options in her Etsy store.)

    Abitare: One New Website

We passed this shop on the way to the subway the other day and—true love! So much less complicated when it happens between a person and a store. Of course we wish they had more of their stock online, but until we get to Brooklyn Heights again, online will have to do.

We don't really use coasters, since all of our drinks come in plastic cups, but if we did, we would be so pleased to use this one. Set of four rubber coasters, $24

We feel like there might be a bit more order in our life if we had these nice hooks, from which to suspend things. Flower hooks, $65 for 3

Savon de Marseille is an all-time Bunnyshop fave. We tried to get this in Marseille, but they were too heavy to bring back. Now, of course, we won't buy them because we could have gotten them cheaper in France. We recommend these for anyone not as beset by psychological torment about this as we are. SdM liquid soap, $20

Our Favorite Thing in the New Domino....

Is totally this wallpaper. We're a little wallpaper-crazy at the moment, and totally drawn to these super-bright, graphic designs. Oh! Can we not just have small apartments around the world, so that we may decorate them all? The wallpaper is Cavern Home, with proceeds going to an orphanage in Peru.

    Domino subscription, $8.95

    Parkhaus: Bunnyshop Hearts

We were scouring all over the place looking for these Parkhaus bunny-shaped egg cozies we found. What we'd with an egg cozy, we have no idea, but the bunnies were awesome. Anyway: We couldn't find them, but we did find these felted bird ornaments. They're not quite as cute as the bunnies, but until Parkhaus expands their online site, we'll be forced to make do.

    Parkhaus felted bird, $10
