The Gossip Girl Fashion Spectacular!

Meh! Again we say meh! And why were there so few costume changes this episode? We swear, Serena spent most of the episode in the blazer-shiny shirt-skinny jeans combo as above. We liked it. But. Enough. Enough. Many, many more photos after the jump. There will be SPOILERS. More or less.

Was that the worst episode of Gossip Girl ever? We're pretty sure it was. We're trying to avoid spoiling anyone watching late, but we'll just say that our stomach actually turned when (and it wasn't at the sight of that giant Chanel bag above)....

Our Gossip Girl Fashion Round-Up

We said "Ew!" many times while watching last night's Gossip Girl. Especially when Dan Humphrey made out with that horrible teacher ew ew ew! We're not sure if everyone hates her as much as we do. Ugh, we find her unbelievably annoying. So we are definitely Team Blair about this. Sometimes we feel like she's dressed a little too matronly for her own good, but this week we liked the sweater sets and bows.

Serena wore two coats we love, not to overuse the word. Here, being all nice to the terrible Rachel:

And here again. We can't tell if it's the actress or the way the role is written but we don't even love to hate her, we just cannot stand this character. Because. Blair. Was. Right! The entire time! Argh!

Ew to Vanessa's leggings as well. We feel like sometimes they strain to dress the "cool Brooklyn girl." We know many, and they don't seem to try as hard as Vanessa does, which is the problem, rather than the leggings themselves:

And TM didn't have much to do this episode but this like neolithic Gossip Girl made us laugh out loud.

Blake Lively in Vogue \ The Best of This Week's Gossip Girl

Oh no! This is so wrong. Now, we love Blake Lively, we even interviewed her once, pre-Gossip Girl, and she was totally adorable and sweet and told us all about her career in student government. But for every BL cover there should be a Leighton Meester cover! Because that is the only time things are balanced in the universe. We let it go when W had their BL cover, but Vogue goes too far. We're biased, but only Nylon did it right, with their double covers. (There is, weirdly, a bizarrely negative article about this at Fox News.com of all places, but we're not linking to them because that's practically like linking to the Ann Coulter website: "Yes, it might seem a bit extreme, but not to several insiders, who are whispering that the choice to feature “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively on the February cover of Vogue magazine is a testament to the magazine’s creative and advertising woes." Weird, right?)

We just don't like it when the show gets all meta, and Blair \ LM is overshadowed by the billion-watt blondness of BL \ Serena. Because LM is amazing and Blair is one of the best villian...esses? on TV ever. There is something unpleasantly ... Gossip Girl-ish about BL getting the Vogue cover—and LM getting Teen Vogue.

Finally, we have written "Blair Lively" about 1000X in this post. On to the episode!

We love Blair's purple coat but they dress her like such a little investment banker some time it completely freaks us out. She's 17!

Also heart Serena's coat (as well as Eric's, which we mentioned last week - yay continuity!). Also her mega-sized bag, though it made us a bit weary of carrying it.

We continue to be obsessed with how they coordinated the Plastics. Bows and v-necks!

Lily + Rufus kind of made us barf this week, but we love that neckline.

And honestly: This is just more Maxim to us than Audrey Hepburn. We're not entirely understanding this dress.

Our Favorite Looks From Last Night's Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl! We caught up over the holidays and our main question is why, as ever, they are dressing Blair like she is 100 years old. Luckily we love Leighton Meester, so it is all good, but we are happier when they put here in the more French, Audrey-type things. And while we love the neckline that beret seems a bit ... literal to us.

We also loved all the evil tripleting this week (not to mention N Yuki's final betrayal). We love how the three witches are always dressed together—the pops of magenta between Iz and Hazel? Lovesit.

And the blues here in P's and H's tights.

And quickly:

We wish Eric were our little brother so we could always dress him in these sweaters;

We do not believe even extremely lame society types would wear basically matching argyle;

and this is our favorite example of Blair's matronly stuff, even if the vibe here is a bit Victorian schoolmarm.

The Gossip Girl Fashion Review

That's Serena being like, "Tinsley-fucking-Mortimer? I feel quite ill."

"Most women only like me for my title. I vowed, next time, to be a common American." Hahahahahaha. We swear we actually started laughing out loud at this point. This whole "Chuck is my true love, I want to go out with a lord" etc etc situation is wearisome.

Chuck's hair should never be styled like this again.
