Another Excellent Cause
We recently received an email from an old BS friend; she wanted to share with us an excellent charity event that BRIDES magazine is doing. Now, before you look away in horror at wedding talk here, let's remember that many of us, at some point, may get married. Rather than wonder why BRIDES is always in all caps, or where you can find a dress that doesn't make you look like a lumpy mermaid ensconced in white satin (this happened to us. Not pleasant), why not go to a wedding dress charity event?
The Something Pink Gown Sale actually seems kind of awesome. Had we not already used up our wedding card, we would totally go to this. First off, it supports an excellent, excellent cause (helping people with breast cancer, as well as breast cancer education and research). Secondly, there are goodie bags. We're suckers for those. Third, having an objective person (in this case, a BRIDES editor) help you find a dress is seriously invaluable. Like this is worth the price of admission alone. The $200 price tag seems steep, but for two people, drinks, objective advice and goodie bags - it's not a bad deal. This is something they're calling the VIP event and takes place on Oct 4. Follow the link for more info.
If you can't swing the $200, you can go to the general sale on Oct 5 and 6; the best parts about these dates are it's only $20 - and they're refreshing the inventory throughout the days. So if you don't make it to the evening event, you can probably still find something awesome.
If you're like us, and have played your wedding card, you can also donate your dress to be re-sold. BRIDES is matching up with Good Morning America to do it on air - while we can't be in NYC at 7:30am next week (if you can, you can donate it while the show is taping, we believe) - we are going to send it here:
Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation
12708 SE Stephens Street
Portland, OR 97233
but there is seriously a ton of info on the site. We love doing good deeds.
The unrelated caketopper is available here:
