Calling All Diana Fans! Or, Those Who Need Hairs Cut

Some of you posted or emailed us about scheduling an appointment with Diana, our resident hair expert. Presumably for a hair cut or color, as you could just email us any questions you have for her. If you're interested in getting your hair done by her, email us here! We will put you in touch with her. Yes, of course she is licensed. And we know we have said it before, but we have never, ever had a better haircut. Diana's a great girl to have around, but she is the most phenomenal hairstylist we've ever met.

We've had two haircuts by her in the last couple months, and we've never felt better. She managed to tame a lifelong cowlick into behaving all the time; she understood our laziness and worked with it (we actually had to buy a blowdryer because the one we have was made in 1984); and best of all, we showed her a bunch of pictures and she took the time to ask what we liked about each one! So, for everyone in the Philadelphia/Lehigh Valley area who need a haircut, email us! We love Diana, and you will too!

BS Hair Expert: Is It Worth It?

We're unsure about the capitalization on the its, but we've decided we don't really care. What we do care about, and what we are so stoked about, is Diana, the BS Hair Expert (we are realizing we have to monitor our usage of commas, too).

In case anyone missed our glowing love of Diana, here it is! For those of you asking for Diana's salon address, we're working on that. We actually have a haircut this weekend and we are so excited!

Anyway - here's our first question for Diana, and her answer:

Dear Diana,
If I had all the money I've spent on hair products, I could have funded
the entire Mongolia trip. It seems every stylist I go to uses
unbelievably expensive products, which I then think I'm supposed to
buy. Except. . . I'm not quite convinced that a $30 - 50 bottle of
something-or-other is really going to do any more for my hair than a $5 - 10 bottle from the drugstore. Are the expensive lines--the kinds the
stylists use--really worth it? Your expert opinion would be much
appreciated.

Thank you,

Andrea

Hi Andrea!

Reading your question, my first response was to say yes, and to let
you in on a secret: you probably actually funded your stylist's
trip to Mongolia!  We do get paid commission on retail after all!  But
honestly, after using some Dove conditioner my mom had in her shower
recently, I'm inclined to say there is a huge difference.  Never has
my hair felt dryer or frizzier than after trying that stuff.  I don't
think you necessarily need to spend $30 on an item, but you can think
of your hair as an investment.  If you're spending $50 to have it cut
and $100 on color, of course you'd want to use something that kept
your color looking good.  Why spend all that money to make it look
good one day if spending a little more will help you maintain the
results longer?  Some lines that I like and think are worth their
price tags are Nioxin, Chi and Ecru.  I'd consider them all mid-price
range with proven results.  Good luck!

Chi Flatiron, $84.29

Though it should be noted that we do not know if Diana approves of this particular flatiron (we believe so). We just found it on Amazon and it looks neat, and is by a brand she recommends.

Introducing: The Newest BS Expert

We'd like to formally introduce everyone to Diana, our newest addition to the BS expert roster. We've known Diana forever, it seems. We always knew she cut hair, but we were happy (so we thought) with our stylist. Who did the same haircut on us. For 4 years. Regardless of what we asked for. We thought, why mess with it? It always looks ok. Er, after we wash it, let it dry, and pin it back.

We've always had a hard time with our haircuts. We used to go to the man our mom goes to - and he flat-out refused to cut our long hair super/pixie short. He said it would never work, our hair was too curly. We knew he was wrong, or we're that stubborn (either way), and we promptly made an appointment at Vidal Sassoon Downtown where we got one of the most amazing haircuts ever.

Our hair stayed short for a few years, and then we started going to a friend of ours. Our friend was good at what she did, but bad at listening. Our hair always looked like hers when we left. Again, we'd have to wash out the product, let it dry, and pin it. We'd actually BRING bobby pins with us to our appointment. We did, however, love her coloring skills. Then, she moved. And we realized that having pink hair past the age of 16 was not appropriate (we were 20).

We went to a stylist we found in the newspaper. We made an appointment with the salon owner, and we brought in a picture of ourself with the same haircut. We said, we would like this, please. We do not blow our hair dry. Please do not cut these side parts.

Guess what he did? He blew our hair out and UP (it was like a small bouffant), and clipped our sides. We cried as we walked out. We finally found a woman we really like - she did what we asked, but still. We never left satisfied. She'd put loads of product in, she'd blow it dry and flip it out. When we went in for 'a change, for some color fun', she suggested brown. Our hair IS brown. Sigh.

When our friend Diana moved back to the area, we knew we had to get a haircut by her.

And, honestly, we have never felt more awesome. We have never gotten more compliments, or had an easier time explaining what we wanted. And we don't think this is because we know her - it's because she's incredibly easy to talk to, she's understanding, and she really, really knows her shit. We brought her pictures and she asked us what we liked about them. We were honest about how we take care of our hair (wash, condition, ponytail). She assured us we would not need to change anything when she was done and we DIDN'T. For the first time in so, so long, we didn't want to wash our hair as soon as we got home. We were scared in case we washed the cool right out of it. But! We washed it! AND IT STILL LOOKED GOOD.

We have another appointment coming up with her soon, and we cannot wait. We're excited now and it's like 3 weeks away. Which sucks, but whatever. We will deal. She's excited to be joining us, so send us your hair questions! We'll pass them on. And if anyone is in the Lehigh Valley/Philadelphia/PA/NJ area, let us know - we're more than happy to pass along her contact info. We don't ever want to get our hair cut anywhere else.

Welcome, Diana!
