    BS Expert: The Frizz Issue

Here's this week's question for our resident hair expert, Diana:

Is there anything to do about frizzy hair in the dry Winter climate? I've tried those anti-frizz sprays, and they seem to act like Amorall for hair (leaves my hair greasy looking)... Is there anything that won't make my head greasy but keep it from looking like I just rubbed a balloon on my head?

    Thanks Diana!

    Danielle

    And Diana's response:
    Hey Danielle!

Isn't that fuzzy crown of thorns the worst?  If you're finding it fuzzy just because of the outside temperature and wearing a scarf, I'd say just throw something on there.  Maybe you're using too much? Really, a tiny dab should suffice.  One product I love for smoothing and shine is Chi's Silk Infusion.  It's under $20 and should last you forever, since you really don't need much.  And if you're in a pinch a little dollop of hand lotion would even work!  One other thing I cannot recommend enough is sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase.  My hair is overprocessed to the max (why do I keep flip flopping between platinum blonde and really dark hair? will I ever learn? to be continued) and adding that to my routine seems to really have helped! You could wrap your hair in a silk scarf at night, but I find that is difficult to keep on.  Good luck!  And if none of these tips help you, at least take comfort in the fact that everyone else is probably rubbing the tops of their head too and hoping you don't notice the fuzzies!

And there we have it! Do you have a question for Diana, our most favorite hair expert, and stylist, that we've ever met? Send them to us here!

i blowdry every day (bad idea, i know...) and my hair was ultra-processed too...and it didn't like it!

i take a teensy bit of MOP's glisten shine drops and smooth that through my damp hair focusing on the lengths and the crown before i dry it (with a round ionic brush). i think i can credit the combination of the brush and the drops for leaving my hair silky and frizz-free. i used to need to use a straightener to get rid of the frizz - not anymore.

oh. and i've had the same bottle for probably 3 years. so...it goes a long way. :)

    Biosilk is the best ever...

Or in stead of hand lotion, a tiny (I cannot emphasize that word enough) bit of conditioner.

I used to have the frizzy hair problem (wavy hair here), until I started using some kind of curl serum by toni and guy. Then one day while visiting my parents I used Herbal Essence's "None of your Frizzness" conditioner. It's the best thing ever to happen to curls. I know I sound like a commercial, but I'd do one, I'm so confident in this stuff.

    It enhances my curls, too.

As for drying, I let my hair air-dry halfway, then blow dry underneath and let it finish air-drying. Letting it air dry all the way makes it look flat and funky, and and blow drying all the way makes it look fluffy and stupid. Half and half is the best way for me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with an offbeat hair routine. I dry my hair, flat iron it, then re-wet the bangs, brush them how I want them to go and either let them air dry or dry with a blow dryer on low. I don't know why it works, but if I don't do that, my bangs want to stick straight out from my head.

I love these kooky routines! Here's mine:

    1) Turn on TV
    2) Wait for weather report
    3) Enter bathroom
    4) Shower
    5) If it's rainy or humid, dry hair with paper towels; get out curly styling products & blowdryer with diffuser attachment. If it's dry, dry hair with real towel; get out out straightening styling products & blowdryer minus attachments
    6) Style accordingly

wow. thanks for the information. i love the glamorous idea of wrapping my head up in a silk scarf at night!
