Full disclaimer: we are a little late posting this morning because we had an entire post, ready to go – and then, at the last line – drama. We typed out a sentence, and realized we had a much more pressing question for our readers. It is:
How do you accessorize?
We have a friend who is so skilled in accessorizing it makes us weep; Dear Friend once showed up for coffee wearing a plaid shirt, jeans and a handful of necklaces that on us would tangle up and choke us. She looked so glamorous that this day, three or four years ago, still rings in our head. We will note that we were wearing a sweatshirt and a cut-off sweater cuff as a headband. We were not looking our best.
We’ve asked Dear Friend to help us figure out accessories, and she tries. We just fail at it miserably. Our normal look is our wedding ring and Swiss Army watch. Sometimes, we’ll add the standard big hoop earrings or Maya Brenner NJ necklace (this has been slightly tarnished for us, though, as one of the Jersey Shore castmates wears the same thing. That horrifies us on many levels, not least of all that she’s not even FROM NJ. Ahem. Anyway.
We admit it. We are terribly, horrifically lazy. We know people who are fitness minded; they run marathons (multiple times a year), they go to yoga several times a week, they go jogging when they have nothing else to do. We also know people who we are even more, er, committed: the gym twice a day, several classes over the weekend. We cannot imagine doing anything even close to this.
We know that there are things we do that most normal people don’t. We have a collection of sculpted rabbits on our desk (each has a name, thank you). We instantly cry at the sight of a hurt/neglected/maligned animal. We can’t handle sporting events because we end up in tears (and never because of a loss, but because of the sheer sight of people pulling together, rooting people on, etc). We are, we think, a bit strange sometimes (and this is without consideration of the things we KNOW are weird that we can’t bear to post).
We were getting dressed this morning, and we stopped to wonder, just how odd ARE we?
We swear to God: We have had one of the best weekends ever, and we are fucking wiped out. Here’s our itinerary today: Work until 3 a.m. Get home to New Jersey by 11 a.m. Interview The Amazing Race losers at noon. Leave for flight at 1 p.m. Go to Glasgow at 7 p.m. We are saying this mostly so that we can remember everything.
Eh. Enough of our complaining. Today’s post is about Tanya Aguiniga, who we just discovered in LA. Here are the four things of hers we want right now.
Aren’t those necklaces above ridiculously beautiful? We couldn’t love them more. They’re art pieces as much as anything else. Rope necklace, $175
Here’s a slightly smaller version. Rope necklace, $125
Above: felt tote. Sorry the pictures are so small—not our fault. Felt tote, $56
And okay, we showed this last week, but—lovely. Rope bracelet, $85
So! We’re just back from LA, where we were working on a story for NYLON, and this is the best of what we saw. Including, above! A girl with a raccoon tail! Is this a trend? Tell us, please, if you believe it is. Amazing. Continue reading →
So! We’re in LA (still) this week, scouting for NYLON. What happens when you throw a street style shoot and no one comes by? You have a lovely lunch, that’s what.
In honor of our time in LA, we thought we’d share stuff from our favorite store here (as yet): Reform School.
We’ve noticed that while we are generally very similar to our co-editor (right down to sounding the exact same on the phone, causing for some awkward moments), there are some very distinct differences between us. We have lots of clothes, she does not. We have short hair, she has long. We, apparently, have minimal beauty products while she has an insane amount. When we first saw the photo that accompanied that post, we thought she’d lifted a stock image from some website. We did not think it possible that was her actual collection. Indeed, it is.
