Well, Hello, Fall at Gap!

We can’t help it. Perhaps it’s because we grew up in New Jersey, or because we have always hated wearing shorts, but back to school/fall shopping is our favorite shopping, even though we’ve been out of school for a decade. We spent the weekend shopping, and we were quite surprised to find so many things we love at Gap. We, apparently, also just realized that it is Gap, and not THE Gap. We will try to correct ourselves here. There were some missteps – seriously, can we please get away from the beaded, faux necklace, striped shirts? You are not J. Crew. Step away from the Bedazzler. We do not need flair. Overall, though, we saw a number of key/standard pieces that we’re excited to fold into our wardrobe for this fall. Is any one piece earth-shatteringly inventive? No. But well-fitting, well-priced, and attractive all are enough for us. Here are our favorites!

Above – we have the almost-dreaded jean legging (we refused to say jegging. What is that?). We were really unsure when we took them into the fitting room; we’d bought and returned a pair before, we’ve gained a few pounds. We did not want to feel like a sausage. Imagine our delight (we actually gasped) when we put them on (we’re in between sizes, and opted for the size up) – it felt like absolute heaven. They’re soft! So soft! Like favorite sweatpants soft. And – best of all – they are not stupidly tight, they do not look like leggings. They look like very snug, but not about to burst, jeans. We are so so excited about these, and we’re most excited about them to wear with boots. They won’t bulk up at the ankles like normal jeans often do. We were so excited, we bought 2 pair (it didn’t hurt that it was buy 1, get 1 for $20). We wouldn’t buy 2 at full price, but if you’re curious, we’d recommend them.

Gap, why you do? This sweater is absolutely fantastic in person, but on the website, it looks like complete crap. We actually love the oatmeal/camel color much more, but it’s styled so terribly on the website that we couldn’t bear to put it here. This is the perfect cozy up sweater, and we’re in love with it with jeans. Our only complaint? It’s a little expensive for being mostly cotton, and the double-breasted buttons are annoying to do up. But it is super cute.

The image of this striped shirt is so bad that we’re actually worried that we had some kind of serious lapse in judgment when we bought two. We sized down a lot, and we found that it’s actually a cute length, not too snug, and will look good with slim pants or jeans. We’re honestly so unsure of this top at this very moment that we’re trying to remember where the receipt is, just in case. We thought it was cute before – we think it has potential, but definitely needs to be tried on in several sizes.

  1. I love all their new jeans, and I also had a long moment in the dressing room over that same striped top! Finally decided the length was awkward and left it ;-P

  2. Just an update:
Since writing this, we have bought another pair of jean leggings; we have the classic wash (a medium, flat blue), rinse (super dark blue) and your fairly generic, slightly whiskered pair. We don’t know if we can ever go back to proper jeans again.

We also took back the striped top.

And! Important note! Gap is doing their 30% off Give and Get promo right now. You can likely grab a coupon by searching for it on google – or email us and we’ll send you one.
