The Mad Men Fashion Spectacular: The Short Goodbye

We initially had quite low expectations for this episode, as it couldn’t possibly match the holiday-dress explosion of last week’s episode, and we’re that much closer to the 1970s. (Not. As beautiful. As the ’60s! Ever!) It turned out to be more interesting, fashion-wise, than we expected, mostly because Don’s (sad!) trip to L.A. made for some notable proto-hippie dressing.

For example: Anna and her niece. Could this be more different than the party dresses from last week? We want this sweater:

But more than that, we want to live in a place where we can always dress in our summer clothing. Unlike our co-writer, we do not anticipate the arrival of autumn—well, we do, but with fear and loathing, and long interior conversations about whether or not we should move to Thailand. (Thinking … yes!)

Here are three more of Anna’s looks. The NY-LA dichotomy here is so striking. No rainbow dresses in the SCDP offices, that’s for sure:

Back to New York. The one look we really loved was this blue dress on Joan:

Also this one—less exciting, even if it gives us a look at this week’s bow-front top on Peggy:

We love how domestic Joan is totally tricked out glam:

We include this because the color palette is so pretty: rose walls, mustard jacket, and the cerulean blue from the dress above:
