The Mad Men Fashion Spectacular: Christmas Comes But Once A Year

So! Don Draper: such a cad. Jon Hamm: so ridiculously attractive. Even when he is acting like a cad. We hope he’s very nice in real life.

Anyhoo, some actually very beautiful clothes this week, thanks to the Sterling Cooper Etc. Christmas party. Let’s start with those. Our favorite, unfortunately, was Jane’s. We say “unfortunately” because she is so annoying, as a character, but this dress … swoon:

The neckline, the earrings, the hair—which is really quite tremendous from the side. We love it.

It was interesting, in fact, seeing how the office hierarchy was depicted in dress form through the party. Obviously, Jane’s at the top. Let’s say that next came Trudy, Pete’s wife—we loved her dress, too, and the gold shoes she paired with it, shown further below.

Then Harry’s wife. We’re pretty meh on this, just as … Harry is below Pete on the corporate ladder, yes? We think, yes?

Of course, we also have Joan, ever the working girl, in the dress that Roger specifically requested she wear, with the bow in the back:

Can you believe all these updos?

We love this picture because it’s like we’re seeing the Old Navy of the Mad Men office. You know that Facebook quiz, like, Which Mad Men character would you be? We’d definitely be the girl holding the wine.

The party, continued. The second one provides a better look at Trudy’s dress—and her gold shoes.

We love it. It’s like an explosion of beautiful 1960s party dresses.

We don’t, on the other hand, like this one at all, but we couldn’t live with not sharing the gold brocade shift dress:

Two pictures of Joan at work—we especially like the three buttons across the top of the blue jacket—we haven’t seen that before.

Here, a close-up of the houndstooth madness from Faye Miller. Note the double use of houndstooth and equally the repetition of the pearls—size L on the ears, size S on the neck.
