New Designer: Tiaan Nagel

We just spent ten weeks away from home, carrying with us a small suitcase and an even smaller number of pieces of clothing, none of which we will ever wear again, in our lives, because they make us tired, and think of stomach flu, just to see them. (Even you, lovely Alternative Apparel burnt-out white t-shirt, and we loved you more than most.)

We bought one piece of clothing on our entire trip, and it was a black top from Tiaan Nagel—a label we were unfamiliar with until last Saturday. We are feeling more clever about this than usual, if for no other reason than apparently he was just in Wallpaper. Actually, we liked him before we knew that, and this is why, besides the fact that we almost cried with relief when we finally put on something we hadn’t already worn 673 times: his draping is so textured and layer-y it’s almost like paper. And if there is one thing we love, it’s paper. (Also, the sale woman there was like the nicest sales woman of all time.) Anyway: If you happen to be in Johannesburg, go! 44 Stanley in Milpark, which should be a first stop in any case.
