Gift Guide, Day 2

Continuing along with yesterday’s gift guide entry…

For the Mom Who is More Fashionable Than She Realizes

Our love and admiration for our mom is well documented. We think she’s one of the most amazing people on the planet; she’s smart, funny, well dressed, has amazing genes that we thank her for all the time, and she’s still a beauty. She doesn’t think she’s as fashionable as we do; she dresses smartly for her age and station. We think jeans are a usually a crap gift, but in this case, maybe not. The Tanya jeans from Ralph Lauren are pretty much perfect. They come in 2 different lengths, the rise is a cry from mom-jean rise, while safely out of low-rise territory, they come in a few different colors, and they come in a range of sizes from petite to plus. They wash well, they wear well. They’re not super inexpensive, which might be our only complaint – but our mom is worth every penny.

Tanya jeans, $65

For the Girl Who Hates Makeup, but Sometimes Likes it

We definitely fall into this category, sort of. We love the idea of makeup – we just rarely can be bothered. We went to a party the other night, and we decided to step it up and apply 3 things – cream eyeliner, lipgloss, and mascara. We got more compliments than we have in ages. Sure, some of them were from the same drunk friend saying the same thing over and over again, but we think that counts.

We’re still trying to master cream eyeliner, but in the time we take with that, we save by throwing on a couple of swipes of lipgloss. The Black Honey from Clinique (annoyingly, only at Sephora) is as pretty and shiny as you would think it is – and we’re thinking wearable on everyone. We think a little gift with this lip gloss, a good cream eyeliner (we’re using the Brush On Cream Liner from Clinique – it’s great, waterproof – but the brush sucks. Ours fell into the toilet so we were forced to buy a new one. It was a wise investment) and maybe a mascara (any will do, we swear) would be an awesome way to break into makeup but still look like you.

Clinique Superbalm Gloss, $14

Clinique Brush On Cream Liner, $14.50

For the Tot Who Has Everything That You Want to Impress

We know, wanting to impress a toddler is a bit weird. We don’t know many people under 3 – so when we have to have a gift for one of them, we end up putting more thought into it than is likely reasonable. We know a 1-year old who is absolutely in love with his stuffed toy from Jellycats. In our old life as a buyer, we bought this for a website you may know and love. We always felt a special connection to them, and that’s couldn’t possibly have anything to with the fact that we still have our childhood bear and talk to him (yes, for real, and no, not baby talk) on a regular basis. That first stuffed animal you make a connection with can be life changing. Before we delve into the weird beyond weird, we’ll leave it at: we love this stuffed bunny, and we’d bet $5 you can’t show us a kid who wouldn’t.

Bashful Bunny, $17.99

The BS Gift Guide

We received an email from a popular shoe website (hint – rhymes with mimermime) containing their holiday gift guide. When we opened the email, we were more than disappointed. We do not feel compelled to buy our big sis a pair of fuzzy boots (really, PL? That’s the best you could do?), nor would we buy any coworker a $72 change purse. We checked out a few other gift guides and they were all equally disappointing, so we’re going to come up with our own, albeit rather specific, gift guide.  Hopefully it’ll be more useful than others we’ve seen. We’d also LOVE to know what everyone is buying their friends/family/coworkers/postal workers for the holidays. Please post your ideas! And away we go!

Tis Take 3!

Bit late in sharing this, but through tomorrow, you can take 30% off orders at Bliss when you create your own gift. It’s mildly annoying that you have to place 2 products in your basket to use it, but whatever. We’re such suckers for their lemon scented anything; it smells just like Lemon Pledge, and we find that absolutely delightful.

Use code GIFT30 at checkout – and surprisingly, it combines with the offer for free shipping on orders over $25!
