Aveda Brilliance!

Short hair, while easy theoretically, can be a massive pain. Sure, we’re never bothered about long drying times, how to wear it for an event, and we have a great stage for strong eyes and/our lips – but it’s also the only hairstyle we’ve had where you may need to wash it at any given time. We were once told by our mom’s hairdresser that we could never have short hair – our hair is too thick, too curly. Well, 14 years later – 10 of those with pixie-length hair – we’re still proving him wrong (though we can’t hate him; he called 911 when our dad passed out during a haircut and called the next day to check on him).

We are not into our hair sticking up at random – or at all, really. But we know we walk a fine line before our red lips and short hair look Robert Palmer-esque. We need a hair product that will keep the flyaways and stickups in place, without giving us a shellacked helmet. We were in Aveda, with our mom, in a massive hurry. We noticed our hair was sticking up in a ridiculous fashion. We literally grabbed the first product we saw – Brilliant Universal Styling Creme – rubbed it in our hands, and pushed our hair down. When we checked it out in the mirror, we had smooth, shiny, non-shellacked hair. We bought it immediately, and we think it’ll become a staple in our cabinet.

Since having short hair, there is literally one product we must always have on hand; the Aveda anti-humectant pomade. We think this styling creme is going to join it. We’d recommend it for anyone who needs a bit of smoothing and shine, without grease, stiffness or next-day regret. It’s not cheap, but a little dab will do – and it travels very well. We’re officially in love.
