Reader Mail! The AA Question, and Not the Kind with 12 Steps

Serve-1
Ok, we know we've been sporadic at best with our posting lately. It's like we're in the last weeks of high school, post finals and college acceptance letters. However, it's not that we don't care; it's quite the contrary. Your regularly scheduled writer is toiling away on our redesign, and we, well. We have a job that is rather demanding, and our 2-man team recently just dropped to 1. We are busy beyond all belief, and when we're not being paid to look at a computer, we generally refuse to.

We are doing the best we can, and we thank you for sticking with us. We will, however, always continue to take reader mail; let's face it. Readers get answers, we get off the hook in trying to think of what to talk about. Totally win-win.

Today's question!

Dear Little Bunny,

I have a $35 credit to American Apparel, and I don't know what to get. I looked; most of it seems pretty         plain or basic. I know you talk about them a lot – what would you recommend?
    Thanks!

Now, we have made our love for the Leisure Dress very, very apparent. We won't mention it again at the risk of boring our regular readers (but we will note that we have 4, and wear them throughout the summer and winter). At $34, it fits the bill.

We've also talked about our love for the Deep V Neck shirts, but none of that is really exciting, or new. We're very intrigued by some of the recent arrivals, though – and we're going to hit up our local store to try them on. If someone gave us $35, here's what we would buy.

We almost can't quite believe how cute the Organic Baby Rib Cross-Back Sundress is. We know the cream scarf-belt is what's really lovely, but even without it, the dress has a great line to it. We think the top is perfect for the season, the skirt is full (or at least looks that way), and we genuinely like the color. Add some sandals, and you're all set.

OBRCB Sundress, $39 (ok, not quite $35 but it's like $35 and a latte)

Now, we post this with some hesitation. We've tried this bathing suit on, and we learned very quickly that anything but black was see through, and that if you're long-torsoed or tall SIZE UP. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, SIZE UP. We know several people who swear by this suit, Penthouse mention or no. We'll try it again; bathing suits are expensive. The only others we've seen in this price range are at Old Navy, and we can't handle any more stars and stripes bikinis.

Triangle Top One Piece, $38

We have no idea where we would wear this romper, but we know we'd want to wear it everywhere. We love the material, we love the color, we love the seemingly easy fit without being sloppy.

Scrub Week, Day 2

Sorry we missed you yesterday – sadly, our day job can become extraordinarily busy and distract us. It's a shame when we realize 14 of the last 24 hours were spent at work, or commuting to and from. Anyway! Day Two!

Beauty product:
Ocean Salt Cleanser

What Sephora Lush says it does: "Generous portions of fine and coarse sea salt line the rim of an
enriching facial scrub to wash away everyday grime. Ocean Salt
refreshes, nourishes, and tones, all while smelling deliciously of
violet and lime. Butters of the avocado and coconut variety take the
edge off, moisturizing and softening your face to reveal a brighter
you. Try it on other parts of your body as well and take a trip to
Margaritaville without the hangover."

What we think: This is one of our favorite scrubs out there, it's true. It's like it's made for our skin – but that being said, it may hit other people the wrong way. It's probably not for sensitive skin – the grains of salt are not what we'd call fine, exactly. It's not like scraping your face with sandpaper, but it's not unlike that, either. We're not sure we get the violet and lime smell – to us, it just smells like a bar, and heaven forbid you get it in your eye/nose/mouth/sensitive areas. Holy hell, does it burn! We've used it as a daily cleanser, and we've used it as a once in a while treat, and we're always happy with it. It leaves us feeling clean without feeling dried out, and we definitely don't feel the slime we mentioned with the Kiehl's scrub we tried. We have to say, we do adore the bright blue color (but be warned, don't taste it. It's not good). Our only complaint (other than the taste, which isn't an ACTUAL complaint because who eats face wash?) is that it's expensive.  Maybe we just use too much, but we go through a small tub fairly quickly.

Stars(!): * * * *. It does what it claims to do, it doesn't dry us out or leave us slimy, and we love it. Left off a star for cost, and because it may not be right for all skin types out there (though it should be noted that Lush has an excellent return policy – if you try it, it doesn't work, you can bring it back for a refund or credit)

Scrub Week, Day 1

It's no secret we love scrubs for our faces. We don't know exactly why, but we think it goes back to a young love of the Body Shop's now-defunct Japanese Washing Grains. Something about the actual scrubbing part just entranced us, and we've tried to find a replacement ever since. Since we have a bathroom cupboard full of scrubs, we're going to review a handful in our first (and, realistically, probably last) scrub week!

Beauty product: Kiehl's Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub

What Sephora Kiehl's says its does: "This unique scrub and natural exfoliator is suitable for all skin types
and utilizes small pieces of actual pineapple and papaya fruit as well
as finely ground scrub grains to exfoliate the skin gently and
naturally. In addition, the Papain and Bromelain known to be contained
in the actual Papaya and Pineapple add a further natural exfoliating
effect to remove dead skin cells and to leave the skin refreshed, soft
and clean. The natural vitamin oils further enhance the superb skin
effects of this special treatment."

What we think: We don't know what we think. We also don't know why they capitalize the names of fruits, but. Some mysteries are better left unsolved. It's fine, we suppose. It smells good. We would buy it again. It left us feeling mostly clean, but we felt like there was a bit of a slime that hung around. That was a bit dismaying. Also dismaying was when we were chatting with the salesperson at Kiehl's; they suggested we try this when we bought lip balm (seriously, way to try to upsell a $6 purchase into a $30 one). We were like, oh no, we already have it – we use it every day! And the salesperson looked alarmed, and was like, well, you should really only use it once a week or so. We were cowed, like, instantly. So, in short, we'd buy this again if we had a store credit or something, but for $25? Eh. We're not amazed.

Stars(!): * *. Eh. It does what it's supposed to, leaves a bit of a film, and is mad expensive. Kiehl's Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub, $25

The Atypical Wedding Ring

We're going to star this week with one of our favorite reader mails! But we don't discriminate – we love all reader mail. Send us some at lilbunnyshop@me.com!

Hi Little Bunny,

I'm getting married later on this summer, and I'm trying to find a wedding ring for myself. I don't need anything flashy – our wedding is small, and aside from the love and whatnot, we're really only having a proper wedding to make it legal, health care, etc. Can you help me find something that's wedding-y enough to keep my extended family off my back, but simple enough that I won't feel like I belong in a Danielle Steele novel? I generally wear more yellow/gold than silver, and I admit, I do like things that sparkle. Price isn't a HUGE issue, but I'd like to keep it reasonably expensive (certainly less than a small, used car).

 Thanks!

Nicole

We can absolutely relate to simple wedding rings. Our betrothed has one that cost around $30, and the engraving is definitely wonky. It was bought with the intent that it'll be lost, sooner rather than later, and it shouldn't be wildly sentimental. Ours isn't so simple, but had it not come as part of a set, we could've been swayed. We understand the desire for something different, but special, wedding-y but not, and here are some of our favorites from Etsy

.We think the ring at the top fits the bill pretty well. It's almost like a basic wedding band – gold, shiny stones, but the handmade quality and open work sets it apart. Plus, we love white sapphires instead of diamonds. It's almost like an inside joke between you and yours. It's almost basic, but totally veers in another direction.

White Sapphire Openwork Band, $425

Ok, so this isn't earth-shatteringly different. We still really love it. It's still fits the wedding criteria of a band, metal, stones, but the organic quality is fantastic. We love it so much we just bought one for ourselves (albeit one of the less expensive versions).

Yet to Discover Ring, 14k Gold with Diamonds, $824

This is one of our favorite. It looks like a ring you'd find in an antique store, or in one of those one-of-a-kind, hobbit-hole jewelry stores you come across once every few years. It's not cheap, but we think it's worth every penny.

Tree of Life ring, $2850

Simple, to the point, and inexpensive. We love this.

Hammered Gold Filled Ring, $39

Congratulations!
