Reader Mail: The Hair Problem

200902270117.jpg

In today's Reader Mail:

Dear BS:
I hope you can answer this question for once and for all—what's the best product to deal with my ridiculously frizzy hair?
Love,
A.

Frizz season is certainly approaching. (Um, very, very slowly. But: still! It's March on Sunday!) Anyhoo, we usually use something (anything) from the John Frieda Frizz Ease line, but we can never quite get that balance right between frizzy and over-product-ified, and our hands are always all slimy after we put it on. So. We recently got a handful of samples at Korres (amazing!) and this "conditioner for dry hair" was among them—while it's not particularly designed for frizz relief, it made our hair that much thicker, which in some way defied the frizz, and made us happy. Also: apparently it's good for detangling, and as we have no tangles at the moment, we are pleased to support this claim. And: lovely packaging! Plus free samples. Really, we couldn't have been happier with the entire procedure.

Who else can recommend something to banish the frizz?

Our tried and true solution for the last 5 years – 2 drops of the john frieda something brunette frizz/smoothing serum combined with a fingernail sized amount of aveda anti-humectant pomade.
keeps frizz at bay without being slimy.

I also use John Frieda – but I’ve been alternating it with a new product – Living Proof. There are about 6 products available – I got in on it before it was “launched” – now it’s available at Sephora and on QVC. Uses a new technology to banish frizz – no silicones. Give it a try!

thanks for the mention of Living Proof, bisbee. First I’d heard of it. If anyone else has tried it I’d love to know how it worked for you. Thanks.

While it’s kinda pricey, Kerastase is my favorite line. I have somewhat fine, wavy hair that is definitely prone to frizz. When I want to wear my hair wavy, I use products from the Oleo-Curl line and when I want to wear it straight I use the Oleo-Relax line. They are both made with rich oils that nourish the hair and make the hair cuticle lay more flat to reduce frizziness.

I used Matrix Sleek.Look. You don’t need the shampoo, but definitely use the conditioner
