So: We were gone for about six weeks longer than we thought we’d be – and it felt even longer after our computer died. We think it might have had something to do with all the ants we saw running in and out of it during this motorbike trip through Vietnam. We love that moment where you’re so tired and wet you’re just like: Ants? In my computer? Whatever, I’m going to sleep.
It was an awesome trip, and we remain in awe, as ever, by how much we love travel – just the concept, and how it can make things (lack of: job / money / whatever) seem much better, especially if you are, like we are, perpetual worriers. We’ve already convinced a friend or two to go to SE Asia after being laid off – not as contrary as it sounds, because we felt like we were living there quite happily on, sometimes, around $10 a day. That is not a lot of money, when it includes food and accommodations, we think. We can’t wait to go back, though we will be well pleased if we can do so without the ants frying our computer’s motherboard again.
Moving on! Our first stop, after two months in Singha beer t-shirts and shorts, was our local Urban Outfitters – local, for the next few days, anyway, being west London, and we bought an APC shirt. Now, we do not like to spend a lot of money on anything, but we’ve been reading all these self-help books lately – really, nothing but, as they were all we could find in some of the bookstores we went to while away. We remember this one section in one about how it was key to wear clothes you felt amazing in and were befitting your ambition, rather than your current situation. (Our current situation, again, being the Singha tees.) We’ve already worn it four times (in two days). It makes us feel like we are in the same area, at least, as the person we would like to grow into, which is a nice feeling.
We are infinitely sorry we missed the election day – we can’t even think of the word, but we can assure you that even in Borneo there was a fair bit of crying, jumping up and down and dancing in the hotel suites. We’re coming back to a Phillies World Series win and the most amazing political event of our lifetime. We’re shaking our heads. Hopeful! That, too, is a nice feeling.
This is not our blouse, but the closest we can find to it: Juicy Couture’s pintucked blouse, was $168, now $117.60.
Our real blouse will be on display at our reading this Wednesday night! If you’re in NYC, come by, it’s our one and only event this fall: Mercantile Library, 17 E 47th, 7 p.m. Treats will be offered!
