Love this article. I am voting for Obama and like you I previously voted for Hilary, because I truly agreed with her health care plan. I honestly don’t understand how we can’t follow suit like the UK with NHS, but then again we have a much more greedy and corrupt system here in the states.

I had to see two specialists this year here in the US. I waited over 6 mos. for one appointment and 4 mos. for the other.

My friend had a severe asthma attack while we were visiting my aunt in England a few years ago, and we had to call an ambulance and get her to the ER. Not only was she seen immediately, but the staff were helpful and calmed my aunt, who was frantic that someone else’s child had gotten ill while in her care. We didn’t have to pay a cent, of course. I wonder what happens in the US when a foreigner is taken ill and has to go to the doctor/ER — who pays for that?

I now feel guilty for hating on the NHS. Similarly I ended up in hospital here in Hong Kong and had my injury sorted out pronto.

AWESOME! Thanks for the story! I’m scared about your cancer drug note, though. If the US federal government decided what was covered, who knows what would be in that same category? Birth control? Abortions? Morning after pills? Mental health? Hormone therapy? Reconstructive surgery? IVF? HIV drugs? STD’s? Stem cell therapy?
It would still be WAY better than the insurance I have now, though (which doesn’t cover most of that as it is). And definitely better than the no insurance I’ve had for most of my life.

Single payer universal is the way to go. Maybe some day we’ll get it. The nay sayers say bureaucrats will stand between us & our doctors, but that’s what’s happening right now, anyway. My doctors tell me they feel like they’re working for the insurance companies. This is insane.

yay! i remain stubbornly hopefully about national health care. i so hope we can manage to pull it off without denying people cancer medication.
