The last reader mail question of the day:
I’m planning a trip to Paris for a week in the fall. I know you
and your sister travel a lot and I wondered if you have a favorite
hotel there? (Paying with my own money, not company money). I always
wind up in some horrible hole. Any reccomends would be grand. Or
grande. Or whatever.Trace B

Oh Trace. How we wish we could help. We were only in Paris for an extremely short time – literally 24 hours. We do not remember much about our hotel room, other than it was a Best Western. We do remember that the concierge was extremely friendly, and that the Metro was nearby. It couldn’t have been that expensive as we were not the ones paying for it (our regularly scheduled writer was generously footing the bill). We are hoping by opening this up to our readers that you will come together to help Trace find a nice, clean, safe, affordable hotel. We will say that when we were in London, we were put up in a hostel and while we had to sleep in a cubby (complete with walls – perhaps so we didn’t fall out? We used the walls as little protectors for our things, tucking our expensive goods inside the walls of our cubby while we slept) – and at something like 20 quid a night, it wasn’t a bad deal. If hotels fail you, this could be of some help.
Here’s a link to where we think we stayed: Best Western
We will get in touch with our regularly scheduled writer as soon as we can, but we think she is nearing Mongolia and is, as such, fairly out of touch.
Au revoir, bonne chance!

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but while in Paris for a week my friend and I stayed at Mary’s Hotel. It was pretty cheap for a hotel (rather than an outright hostel), clean, comfy, the front desk was pretty helpful about getting us a cab at 5am in the morning and overall we were extremely happy we stayed there.

Not the flashiest place but certainly within our budget and was still a comfortable place to sleep for the night.
My friends, a couple, stayed in Paris for a week and found a place from craigslist under the sublets/temporary or housing swaps. They got a great studio apartment the owner was letting out for a week while he was away and I believe they got the whole place fully furnished, kitchen and all for under 300 euros for the entire week
Have a look at tablethotel.com for some reasonably price (100 euros per night) boutique hotels or http://www.haveninparis.com or (you can get an apartment quite cheaply on this site) http://www.lodgis.com/en/paris/?sid=a113136415239ed2c9dfa1bd10c40156
Not sure of your price range but the Victoria Palace in St. Germain Du Pres is amazing!
Hiya. What’s your price range? I just got back from Paris yesterday. Stayed for five nights at Hôtel Les Degrés de Notre Dame

We spent 2 nights in one of the more expensive rooms (view of Notre Dame) – 150 Euro/night, and 3 nights in a cheaper one – 115 Euro/night. Breakfast included. This was a very cute, small (only 10 rooms), no frills place with friendly staff. The location was absolutely FANTASTIC, esp if you like the Latin Quarter/St Germain. I would go there again.
