BS Hearts: Aveda

We know we have had some issues with Aveda lately. But that does not mean we don’t love them. They are like the jeans you’ve had forever, and sometimes you are tired of them. But they will always be there for you. They are almost like AAA, or pet health insurance. You hate paying for it, but you know in a pinch, they will be there for you.

We have very wavy/curly hair. We desperately wanted to get it cut short when we were young, and our mother’s stylist said, ‘ABSOLUTELY NOT. IT WILL LOOK TERRIBLE’. We said fuck you, basically, and went to get the most expensive haircut we’ve ever had. We made an appointment at Vidal Sassoon Downtown in NYC, hopped the train, and got a short haircut. It was probably the most amazing haircut we’ve ever had, and we were even offered beverages! Champagne! Orange Juice! We were, and still are, very unskilled when it comes to having attention paid to us. At VSD, it seems like each client had their own assistant to wait on us hand and foot. When asked what we wanted, we blushed, said nothing, and lowered our eyelashes. But we have not forgotten Stefan, our assistant.

Anyway. As our hair is wavy, short hair (and we mean short, like Mia Farrow pixie cut short) can be a challenge. Our stylist recommended a pomade to keep the wispies down and the curls at bay. She told us to try Aveda’s Anti-Humectant Pomade. And we did! And we have always had a small container in our bathroom, and this haircut was probably 10 years ago. We do not have that kind of devotion to ANYTHING.

When we had short hair (up until last year), we used it to keep everything at bay. Now that our hair is significantly longer, it is the only post-shower product we use. No spray, no leave-ins, no gels, no thick stuff. This beautiful, light product smells fabulous and doesn’t make our troubled hair greasy. We don’t even like to travel without it, and we’ve forgotten our toothbrush before we’d forget this.

So please don’t think we dislike Aveda. We don’t. We love them. Mostly.

Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade, $18.00

Oh – it’s currently out of stock on the website, but we bet it’s still available in stores.

  1. Last week, as I was leaving a photo shoot all sad that I do not look like a model, I stopped into a Ricky’s and bought, for the first time in years, my high school favorite shampoo and conditioner treat: Aveda Sap Moss. Back then, it seemed like such a splurge. Last week, the end of a paycheck cycle, it WAS a splurge, but totally worth the insane nostalgia-bomb of smelling that familiar scent again.
I’m really enjoying it. Yay Aveda.

  2. oh, i love that anti-humectant…but i loved it more when it came in the solid blue glass jar…oh the good ol’ days. the smell of this pomade is the best. aveda really hit the nail on the head with scents.

  3. This is a true miracle product, but gotta remember to use the tiniest tiniest amount, otherwise it just looks greasy. Not like cheaper, drugstore anti-frizz products.
